Martin Eden: Part 1
One of the most inspiring books I have ever read is called ''Martin Eden''. It is a classic novel written in the genre Künstlerroman (German for artist's novel) by renowned American writer Jack London.
The story is set in Oakland, in the beginning of the 20th century. Martin Eden, the main character of the novel, is a unrefined sailor who leads a promiscious lifestyle and spends most of his unsteady earnings at the local bars, just like every other seaman does.
One day he serendipitously rescues a well-born young man called Arthur. In order to express his profound gratitude, he invites Martin to have a dinner with his noble family.
The plot starts to unfold when Martin meets Arthur's sister; he instantly feels a deep affinity for her that shortly after turns into passionate love. However, due to the enormous gap in their social classes, any kind of relationship would be strongly opposed by the girl's parents. Thus, the main character decides to abandon his past and drastically transform his life in order to become worthy enough.

Ce matin
Je ne suis pas sûr que le café soit bon ou mauvais pour les reins, mais ce matin je n’y ai pas prêté attention et j’en ai bu une tasse dans mon jardin.
Comme c’est mon jour de congé, j’y ai passé plus d’une heure.
Après le café, j’ai mangé deux figues et j’ai bien profité de la fraîcheur d’un matin d’automne.

Вчера моя компютерная мышь сломала. Несколько дней уже, у неё были проблемы влклучения. Операционная система более не распознала. На самом деле все мои мыши испытали такую судьбу. Однако, в этот раз у меня не было мыши на замену. К счастью я нашёл способ использовать цифровую клавиатурю как мушь. Это совсем не практично, но по крайней мере это работает. Новая мышь пройдёт скоро. Такие маленькие повседневние инциденты нам напоминают о том, как полезными могут оказываться простые предметы, которым мы обычно не обращаем внимание.

L'automne est arrivé
Les jours deviennent plus courts et plus pluvieux. Ce changement était soudain ; comme un interrupteur le jour du changement de saison. Mais c'est normal, et je me dis d'en profiter car ça va être plus dur quand on reculera l'heure en octobre. Le froid et la pluie ne me dérangent pas trop, ce sont plutôt les nuits qui tombent tôt qui peuvent me déprimer parfois.
Je pense déjà à Halloween, ma fête préférée. J'aimerais décorer l'extérieur de la maison un peu pour signaler aux gens « les bonbons se trouvent ici ! », mais je vis sur un petit tronçon de route avec peu de maisons, et la vitesse y est assez élevée. Ce n'est pas très engageant pour marcher.
La nuit d'Halloween est aussi plus dure en France qu'en Californie. En Californie, il fait plus chaud, il est presque certain qu'il ne pleuvra pas et le changement d'heure n'est pas encore entré en vigueur. Ça m'attriste que tous les enfants n'aient pas eu autant de chance que moi.

À la plage
C’est une journée magnifique. Le ciel est bleu clair, le soleil brille et il y a une légère brise. Je suis sur la plage et autour de moi, j’aperçois des gens qui profitent de cette belle journée.
Des chiens s’ébattent dans les vagues. Certains courent après des balles, d’autres après des bâtons. Dans un coin, il y a une famille qui fait un pique-nique. Ils se sont assis sur un tapis et dans leur panier, il y a des sandwichs, des petites viennoiseries et un gâteau. Je remarque des ballons et des banderoles et j’imagine qu’ils fêtent un anniversaire.
Une autre famille joue dans des vagues. Je suppose que l’eau est encore froide car les enfants ne sont pas dans la mer. La petite fille et le garçon d’une dizaine d’années portent des bottes en caoutchouc et des chapeaux. Ils éclaboussent dans l’eau pendant que la deuxième petite fille ramasse des coquillages. Quelle belle journée à la plage.

L’assurance de voyage
De nos jours, les entreprises en faillite font la une. L’autre jour, c’était une agence de voyage bien connue. Cette agence, respectée jusqu’à présent a proposé des visites guidées en Australie et aussi à l’étranger. Plusieurs de mes amis l’ont utilisée.
Selon les actualités, l’agence de voyage a annulé toutes leurs tournées du jour au lendemain. Les clients ont reçu un courriel et ils étaient choqués. Ils n’ont jamais attendu cette nouvelle terrible. L’agence a déclaré faillite et il n’y a eu aucune avertissement.
La majorité de ses clients avait l’assurance de voyage et ces clients se sentaient en sécurité. Ils pensaient que leur assurance de voyage les couvrirait. Pourtant, ils étaient dévastés d’apprendre que leur assurance de voyage ne les protège pas en cas de faillite. Ils ont tout perdu.

On the Verge of Dialysis.
I’m not sure whether coffee is good or bad for the kidneys, but this morning I didn’t care about that and had a cup in my garden.
Since it’s my day off, I spent more than an hour there.
With the hot summer now over, the figs that had been small until recently suddenly grew larger and started turning red.
Before the birds could eat them, I made sure to cover them properly with a net this morning.

Vegetable Plots
When I was a child, every family in my village had a small vegetable plot. They couldn’t afford to buy vegetables, so they grew their own.
My village was square-shaped and surrounded by a small moat. Outside the moat on the west side lay our vegetable plots—together, these plots were also square and divided into separate sections for each family in the village.
Unlike field crops, vegetables require more care. So the plots must be carefully prepared based on the different types of vegetables to be grown. At the very least, irrigation ditches are indispensable.
Since vegetables need watering almost every day, each plot had a well. I consider these wells a symbol of people’s wisdom, thanks to the simple mechanical device each was equipped with.
The device typically consisted of three wooden sticks of different diameters. A thick stick stood beside the well, and its top was connected to the middle of a slightly thinner stick. One end of this horizontal stick was attached to a counterweight, while the other end was linked to a thin wooden stick. A hook was fixed to the bottom of this thin stick; when people needed to fetch water, they would use it to hang a bucket. This simple yet clever device made drawing water from the well much easier.
People grew a variety of vegetables, such as green onions, potatoes, chili peppers, radishes, carrots, Chinese cabbages, tomatoes, and melons.
They never used chemical fertilizers or pesticides when growing vegetables (I’m not even sure if such things existed back then). Instead, they only used organic fertilizers—which were probably the only kind available to them at the time.
As a result, people never had to worry about the food they ate: it was all organic, grown with their own hands.

La final temporada de “Alice in Borderland” mañana
Mi amigo y yo hamos venido esta serie llama “Alice in Borderland”. Creo que es una serie asombrosa, me encanta el mundo y el concepto. Está en Tokoyo, Japón, y estos personajes están atascado en un mundo alternativo. Es el ciudad de Tokoyo, sino abandonado. Aprendemos que este lugar se llama “The Borderlands” La gente que está allá tienen que jugar juegos mortales así que pueden extender sus “visas” (básicamente son algo que permite una persona quedar en The Borderlands). Si una visa de alguien expira, morirá.
Los juegos tienen dificultades diferentes, dependiendo de el tipo de carda que tienen. Por ejemplo, un juego fácil podría ser un 1 de picas, y un juego difícil podría ser un 7 de corazones. Los palos significan tipos diferentes también. Picas son muy físicas, diamantes son sobre inteligencia, tréboles son juegos de cooperación y trabajo en equipo, y corazones son muy emocionales y juega con el corazón. Un personaje dijo que los juegos corazones “Tear hearts apart” (creo que eso significa “desgarran corazones en pedazos” en español) Los juegos más difíciles son las figuras. Los personajes creen que tiene que jugar todos los juegos, y colectar todos las cardas volver a su mundo.
La serie es muy bien y interesante. Me encanta este concepto. No puedo esperar para la tercera temporada. Voy a verlo con mi amigo mañana cuando volver a hogar. Espero que no es como “Squid Game” donde cada personaje mueren…

Mein Hobby
Ich habe ein paar Hobbys, zum Beispiel malen, zeichnen und stricken. Aber zurzeit mein Lieblingshobby is...ich glaube die Name is Frivolität machen, oder veilleicht es ist Occhi spitzen. Es heißt "tatting" in English. Man macht Spitzensachen mit sehr fein Garn. Ein andere Name is Schiffenspitze. Occhi spitzen is sehr fein und elegant, aber ziemlich schwer zu machen. Ich liebe die Occhi-Technik. Ich mache Schiffen-Occhi, mit Schiffchen, nicht Nadel-Occhi. Schiffen-Occhi ist feiner als Nadel-Occhi.

Allora, adesso potete capire perché non posso tradurre libri giapponesi di pubblico dominio, anche se hanno solo 100 anni. Sono troppo diversi dai libri giapponesi moderni. È come una lingua diversa.
E non posso vendere le mie traduzioni moderne a causa della legge sul copyright. Quindi la mia passione sarà sempre un "labor of love." Spero di tradurre circa 50 o 100 libri prima di mia morte (all'età di 98!) Così i miei figli o futuri nipoti potranno donarli alla biblioteca locale, dove i bibliotecari potranno bruciarli nella fornace nelle fredde notti invernli!

Choosing Less Beef 牛肉を選ばないようにしている
Among different types of meat, beef is the one I choose the least, and I’ve been trying to avoid it for years. At first, it was simply to save money, since beef is obviously the most expensive kind. Recently, I’ve started to think more about environmental issues, too. According to news reports, raising cattle has a high environmental cost because cows produce methane and require large amounts of feed.
So these days, I try to eat more fish and chicken. I don’t eat pork as often as chicken, but since pork is rich in vitamins and helps with recovery from fatigue, I like to have it occasionally.
If I were truly serious about the environment, I might consider becoming a vegetarian. However, I haven’t seriously considered it, as it would be difficult given my food preferences and the limited options in Japan. For example, there don’t seem to be many restaurants that offer good vegetarian options at affordable prices.
Ideally, it would be wonderful if what I enjoy eating were also good for the environment, affordable, and healthy. For now, the best example of that is natto.

Ich kann mich nicht entspannen
Heute habe ich versucht zu lernen, aber konnte ich es nicht. Am Ende habe ich entschieden zu entspannen, trotzdem fällt es mich schwer zu entspannen😂, aber nur wenn ich viel zu tun habe. Ich habe eine wichtige Prüfung am Ende Oktober, und es ist mein dritter Versucht. Ich habe vorher viel Zeit verbracht um zu Lernen, totzdem habe ich es nicht geschafft. Manchmal denke ich, dass ich perfekt Deutsch sprechen muss, um diese Prüfung zu bestehen. Deswegen habe ich das Gefühl, dass ich meine Zeit nicht verschwenden sollte. Ich fühle mich sehr unter Druck gesetzt.
