Review of the film "Arrival"

The movie "Arrival" is one topic my final exam will be about, which is why I will give you a quick overview over the film and its topic.
The film starts by showing the arrival of 12 unknown vessels. The vessels land all around the world, not showing any pattern or any logic in their locations.
The US military starts investigating a vessel that landed in Montana while the rest of the country starts going into lockdown.
They make the first contact with the aliens inside of the vessel and record an audio, which they bring to Luise, a professor who specializes in languages, to decipher.
Luise declines the job offer to decipher the message and is adamant that she needs to see and hear the aliens in person to be able to decipher their language.
And that is exactly what happens.
With the help of the physicist Ian, Luise starts to get in contact with the aliens and starts teaching them English to get a better understanding of why they're here.
This is a rather long process, since the vessel only opens up for 15 minutes every 2 hours.
Also, their supervisor pressures them into working faster.
This is because other countries like China do not share the same strategy as the USA and are preparing to go to war against the aliens.
Luise health seemingly declines, she gets visions of a child dyeing of cancer.
She starts building a bond not only with Ian but also with the aliens.
She starts to understand their language without the help of technology.
The aliens keep on talking about a tool they want to give Luise.
At the end of the movie Luise understands; it is not a tool they want to give her, their language is the tool they gift her.
Their language doesn't see time as something linear like we do , but rather as a complex matter.
With the help of the language, Luise has the ability to live the future (for whoever is correcting this: I actually mean live the future and not live in the future :) ) and she sees what she has to do to stop China from starting a war against the aliens.
After heroically stoping the war by phoning the Chinese general against her supervisors orders, the audience can see her visions becoming reality. She's in a relationship with Ian, even though it won't last, has a kid that dies of cancer, she starts teaching the language and gets internationally recognized.

Now to my personal review of the movie.
Overall, the movie is very dark, you constantly see your own reflection on your screen instead of the actual movie. Also, the plot is really confusing for first time watchers, it's not clear if the visions that Luise has are flashforwards or flashbacks. Also, 90% of the visions are not relevant for the movie.
Additionally, when reading through the description of the film, one expects much more out of it.
There is not much action going on, it's a film that basically just consists of dialogue.
I tried watching it multiple times in full (including in school) and fell asleep.
It is really boring and I wouldn't recommend it to anyone, even though it received an Oscar (nor sure about that though, but I think I read it somewhere).
Maybe I am biased because I need to watch it for school but nevertheless I think that it's just not a good movie plot.
