A pressure cooker might not be the most popular choice when it comes to cooking rice. However, I’m one of those who do. I’ve been cooking rice with a pressure cooker for several years.
It started when I realized that dried rice grains and stains often remain around the lid of a rice cooker. Even though it doesn’t usually cause major issues like odor or mold, it still made me uncomfortable.
That’s when I found out that a pressure cooker can also be used to cook rice, and I wanted to give it a try. I bought a relatively small 2.5-liter pressure cooker for about 3,000 yen. It turned out to be just the right size to cook four cups of rice. It only takes about 20 minutes, which saves time. Since it’s a pot, I can wash it thoroughly, and I also use it for making soups, boiling beans, and other dishes.
Since I started using a pressure cooker, cooking has felt less like a burden. Cooking rice with it has now become an indispensable part of my everyday cooking.
