Feb. 4, 2025
Today is the last day of the Spring Festival holiday. The weather is quite good in Shanghai, so I'm doing some laundry and rearranging my windowsill garden.
I also looked back at my holiday and the days before it. Well, nothing special happened since I had been suffering from the flu.
I think the flowers I bought before the Spring Festival and I watched in a park were the lights of my memory during this holiday.
I've uploaded three short videos I took the day before yesterday when I was in the park. You can watch them here: https://www.youtube.com/@myplain/shorts
I hope you enjoy them as well.
I added some words to explain these videos. If you find some mistakes in them, please let me know.
- Plum blossoms -
These are the first plum blossoms since they can withstand the cold weather better.
In Chinese culture, there's an elegant activity called 踏雪寻梅 “looking for plum flowers while treading on snow.” I believe it's this kind of white flower in it because plum blossoms with other colours need warmer weather.
Talking about the colours of plum blossoms, there are many in China. Chinese people have planted white, yellow, green, pink, red, and rose-red plum blossoms for more than 3000 years.
If you're in Shanghai right now, there are three great places for you to look for plum blossoms:
1. Century Park, Pudong District
2. Shanghai Chen Shan Botanical Garden, Songjiang District
3. Shanghai Botanical Garden, Xuhui District
-Wintersweet flowers-
This is one of my favorite flowers in winter, wintersweet.
Wintersweet (Chimonanthus praecox Link), native to China, is a famous and precious woody plant with a long history of cultivation.
The first time I found out its English name, I thought maybe I had gotten it wrong because, in my eyes, it's a cool and clean aroma, not a sweet one.
-Camellia flowers-
Another one of my favorite flowers in winter is camellia.
I aimed to watch the plum blossoming but ran into these beautiful camellias.
P.S.
I heard that the flu has broken out in many places. I hope this entry finds you all well!

The last day of the Spring Festival holidayChinese New Year
Either refer to it as just "Spring Festival" but internationally its known as "Chinese New Year" and understood to be a holiday period
Today is the last day of the Chinese New Year, known also as the Spring Festival holiday.
This way you cover both.
The weather is quite good in Shanghai, so I'm doing some laundry and rearranging my windowsill garden.
I also looked back athought about my holiday and the days beforeleading up to it.
"Reflected on" may be more appropriate here. Since you are already looking back, the phrase "days leading up to it" would be a more natural fit.
Well, nothingNothing particularly special happened since I had been suffering from the flu.
Avoid a bad writing habit of starting a sentence with a conversational filler like "So" or "Well".
I thinkThe highlights of my holiday this time were the flowers I bought before the Spring Festival and I watched in a park were the lights of my memory durthe ones I saw ing this holidaye park.
You're using the past tense so you don't need to overstate its a memory. It was unclear what you watched in the park, but normally you watch something active like a game. So I assumed at the park you looked at the flowers.

I changed "colours" to colors because that is the UK spelling, and you hadn't used a UK spelling anywhere else. I took out the word "elegant" for now because it wasn't clear what made it so elegant. If you include that adjective, explain what the elegant activity is.
