Soil Desks And Stools
The elementary school I used to study in was behind my village and separated from the village by a small moat.
The schoolhouse was a row of bungalows stretching from east to west, and it was constructed of soil, wood and wheat straw.
The desks and stools were also made of soil and wheat straw. During summer vacations, we made them with our teachers.
Soil was everywhere in the countryside, and so was wheat straw. We mixed the straw with the soil so that the mixture would become very solid.
Afterwards we shaped the mixture into desks and stools and dried them in the sun.
Before using them, we would polish their surfaces so that the surfaces would become very smooth.
It was very comfortable to put our hands on the desk and sit on the stool.
