Social Gathering
Last week, I took part in a social gathering, called 賀詞交歓会 (Ga-shi-kou-kan-kai) in Japanese. I had never heard of this word and could not pronounce it. This event is held to celebrate a new year and obtain business opportunities. Participants exchange their business cards to become acquainted with potential clients or business partners. I hate this kind of outdated customs and felt like fleeing from a venue.
先週、日本語で「賀詞交歓会」と呼ばれる交流会に参加してきた。これまで生きてきて「賀詞交歓会」という言葉を初めて聞いたし、なんて読むのか分からなかった。このイベントは新年を祝い、ビジネスの機会を得るために催される。参加者は名刺を交換し、潜在的な顧客やビジネスパートナーとの親交を深める。私はこうした古臭い慣習が嫌いで一刻も早く会場から逃げ出したいと思った。

What you wrote makes it sound like exchanging business cards is the only purpose. In the Japanese version, I think you wrote "Participants exchange business cards and deepen relationships with potential clients and business partners."
I hate this kind of outdated customs and felt like fleeing from a venu(or leaving) as quickly as possible.
