Shocked
Today I've seen the Bible and the Psalter in a trash bin.
My partner and I were going to the mall when he noticed it. I completely forgot what I was talking about. I couldn't continue anymore. I was really puzzled. Why had somebody done it? Who had thrown these books away, after all? What happened? What must happen to put the Bible in a random trash bin? It wasn't even in a garbage dump. It wasn't wrapped in a plastic bag, mixed with other "trash"... Only books inside a random small bin near grocery and alcoholic stores. Where was the man/woman going? Was throwing books away a spontaneous decision?
Don't get me wrong. I'm not too religious, but I can't comprehend it!
Was the man/woman frustrated? Did God disappoint him/her? I can understand it. Nowadays there are too many things that bring people to thoughts that if God existed he would never allow what's going on. Maybe the stranger has been grieving? Perhaps someone close to him/her had died?
The stranger HAD these books, therefore he/she must have believed in God, right? I might be wrong...
It's such a mystery. There are a lot of questions and no answer. I don’t have any idea! This situation shocked me, caught me off guard, and made me sad. What will people do next? What else will anybody decide to "throw away"? What's another piece of human culture I will see inside a trash bin tomorrow?

Same meaning but "I've seen" didn't sound correct. I'm not sure of the grammar rule that's doing that, but I think it has to do with the time frame being specified (Today)

I think this word choice is better for both talking about a past event as well as a more "sympathetic" way to say it. Can is a bit more absolute yes or no. Whereas could is more... Conditional I guess? I hope that makes sense.

This isn't a strict grammar rule, but when talking about a specific thought, adding quotations is a good way to clearly show what that thought is. This might be more a personal style choice admittedly, but I think it is a useful tool to distinguish thoughts from the rest of the text.

Great work overall. I just had some tweaks to the overall flow, some word tenses and admittedly some things that might be personal preference. Definitely had no issues understanding the content though and your spelling and overall word selection was great.

I think the "I've seen" implies that you've seen it multiple times and "I saw" is just once.
