Practicing languages with real people

Since my town is a very touristy place, I’m looking to improve my speaking fluency so I can meet new people. I found a small group that gathers on a bar every Wednesday, but right now they took a break for holidays and they’ll be returning at the end of January.
I did practice my English with an AI app last year, and I could notice an improvement, but it’s not the same that interacting with a real person, isn’t has interesting nor gratifying to actually meet another human.
I hope I’ll be writing about my experience at the exchange group next month.

Feedback

I too uses AI as a preliminary check or for vocabulary suggestion, but I still would like to counter check it with another person. Most of the time, people can still find mistakes in what I wrote so AI is still not good enough yet to be solely dependable in my opinion.

Agree, AI is a great tool for languages, but is preferable to double check with a person 😅

One typically says "at [a place]". "on [a place]" can refer to one being physically on top of an object, or used in the context of television, a movie, media, etc. For example, "I heard that song on the radio", or "I saw that actor on television yesterday".

I did practice my English with an AI app last year, and I could noticed an improvement, but it’s not the same thatas interacting with a real person,. It isn’t has interesting nor as gratifying toas actually meeting another human.

"could notice an improvement" is grammatically correct, but it sounds more natural personally to simply say "noticed an improvement" using the past tense.
For the last sentence, this pattern should be used: "A is / isn't as B as D" instead of "A is / isn't as B to D".

I hope I’ll be writing about my experience at the exchange group next month.

I think it may be confusing to read different corrections for the same statement, so I would like to add a small explanation.

I am looking at this: "but right now they took a break for the holidays, and they’ll be returning at the end of January."

The problem here is that "right now" refers to the present, but "they took" is in the past tense.

@Lionel: "but right now they are taking a break for the holidays, and they’ll be returning at the end of January."
I agree with this. The verbs "are taking" (present tense) and "they'll be returning" (future tense) match the time periods.
I also like the repetition of "-ing" because it makes the sentence flow well.

@Romany: "but right now they have taken a break for the holidays, but they’ll be returning at the end of January."
I agree with this. The first verb "have taken" (present perfect) matches "right now" because it is used for past events that continue into the present. We understand that they stopped meeting at some point in the past and they are not meeting now.
I don't like the repetition of "but" two times in the same sentence, so I would try to avoid that. The argument for "but" instead of "and" is that it shows the contrast (now they are on break, but later they won't be). I guess it depends on how important grammar rules are to you.

Tenses are difficult in every language I have studied, so pay attention to them when you join the group on Wednesdays.
