This year, I want to improve my English in all four skills: speaking, listening, reading, and writing. As someone living abroad, I find it difficult to communicate with people sometimes. Speaking of living abroad, I'm currently residing in the Middle East. Most people here don't speak English very well, so it's hard for me to improve my skills effectively.
I've been learning English for exactly three years now, but unfortunately, I'm not satisfied with my current level. I want to be able to speak like a native speaker, confidently and without hesitation. I need to work on my vocabulary, especially for daily conversations. I sometimes struggle to talk about everyday topics like houses, kitchen items, food, transportation, and office supplies. Improving my vocabulary in these areas will help me speak more naturally and feel more comfortable in daily situations. But the problem is that it's hard to talk about these topics because I don't have a practice partner. Even when I use speaking apps, the conversation always ends with self-introductions. The worst part is that these apps have time limits, so it's very hard to keep up and have a real conversation. Even though I use English every day to communicate, the people I talk to don’t speak it correctly, so it’s hard for me to improve. Additionally, here in the Middle East, English classes and private tutors are quite expensive. Writing and reading aren’t a problem for me, but speaking is still difficult. I often know the words in my head, but when I try to speak, I get nervous or forget how to say them naturally. Sometimes, I can’t find the right word, and it makes me feel frustrated or stuck during conversations. Even though I know the meaning, I just can't remember the exact word I need.
If you know any websites or applications that are really good for this, please let me know.
For now, I’m using ChatGPT to practice speaking, writing and I’m watching YouTube videos for listening.
