I want to study Russian.

Japan is encircled by China, Taiwan, Korea, and Russia. The Pacific Ocean is located between Japan and the U.S. So, in spite of the long distance between the U.S. and Japan, it can also be considered a neighboring country.

In Japan, many publishers publish materials for English learners. (However, in contrast to the circulation of these materials, we Japanese people aren't confident in our English skills. :) )

Following English, there are many materials for Korean and Chinese learners.

However, it is difficult to find Russian learning materials in bookstores in cities. In order to study Russian, I borrow books from libraries. Even in libraries, there are few Russian books.

Besides reading texts, I often watch videos on YouTube produced by the Japanese wife and Russian husband living in Russia.

Even if you have complex feelings toward neighboring countries, learning their language is not in vain.

Why is there a lack of Russian language learning environment in Japan?

Japan is encirclsurrounded by China, Taiwan, Korea, and Russia. Japan is surrounded by China, Taiwan, Korea, and Russia.

I think "encircle" has a nuance of combat or war tactics, so I corrected this to "surrounded" which is simpler and still conveys the same meaning.

The Pacific Ocean is located between Japan and the U.S.

So, in spite of the long distance between the U.S. and Japan, ittwo countries, the U.S. can also be considered a neighboring country. So, in spite of the long distance between the two countries, the U.S. can also be considered a neighboring country.

Although the reader can most certainly infer that "it" is referring to the U.S., from a purely grammatical standpoint, the U.S. has not been brought up as the subject of any sentence. So, there's not really a subject for "it" to reference and for this reason the sentence sounds a little unnatural.

Another, more natural way to phrase this would be: "Even in libraries, there aren't a lot of Russian books."

The use of "the" here is not wrong, but it assumes the reader knows who you are talking about, which I don't...

Why is there a lack of a Russian language learning environment in Japan? Why is there a lack of a Russian language learning environment in Japan?

Why is there a lack of Russian language learning environment in Japan? Why is there a lack of Russian language learning environment in Japan?

I would rephrase this to: Why is there a general lack of interest in learning Russian in Japan?
