My First Workplace

My first workplace was in a county in the eastern part of Anhui Province, a hilly area.

Our office was located on a small hillside, consisting of a row of bungalows stretching from east to west.

There were only seven people in our department, which was responsible for training agricultural machinery operators in the county.

The department assigned me a single room, which I shared with another new employee who had graduated from a technical secondary school in Fengyang County.

Since the department didn’t have a cafeteria, I had to cook for myself. I bought a rice cooker and a kerosene stove, though I occasionally ate out.

Most of the time, I prepared class materials covering knowledge about the principles and structures of minitype tractors, as well as how to operate them efficiently and safely.

I still vividly remember my first class. I prepared extensively because I wanted to present the best version of myself, but I finished the lesson about ten minutes early.

The students were all older than me, which made me nervous, and I forgot some of the content I had prepared.

I worked in that department for four years before being transferred to my hometown. Even though I haven’t been back there for a long time, I can still recall many memories from my first workplace.

Yours works, but this sounds a little more natural

Our office was located on a small hillside, and consistinged of a row of bungalows stretching from east to west.

Without the “and” here, it sounds like the hillside was a row of bungalows

“Hometown” means where you are from (either having lived there a long time, or coming from there originally). I’m not sure if that’s what you meant, but just clarifying.

Even though I haven’t been back there for a long time, I can still recall many memories from my first workplace.

I’d like to ask a few questions that have been confusing me. I was born and raised in a village under the jurisdiction of Town A, which is under the jurisdiction of County B, and the county is under the jurisdiction of City C. What should I call these four places? Should I refer to them as my “home village,” “hometown,” “home county,” and “home city”? This question has confused me for a long time. Thank you very much.

Feedback

The word "workplace" refers to the physical location of your job while "job" refers to the entire experience so using the word "job" sounds more natural for the writing.
