Maybe I Don’t Need a Trip? 私に旅行はいらない？

A trip is a fun event where you can step into a new world, enjoy unfamiliar scenery, and try delicious local food. Of course, I like traveling, but recently I’ve started to think that maybe I don’t enjoy it as much as I thought. Although I find my friends’ travel stories interesting, I don’t really feel the urge to go myself.

First, traveling requires packing clothes and other items, researching the destination, and making reservations. That feels like a hassle. Next, I feel anxious about sudden changes in weather or plans, since I’m not very good at handling unexpected problems. Having to deal with them flexibly is stressful for me. Finally, I genuinely enjoy my current daily life, including my work. So when I’m asked whether I’d like to take time off to travel, I honestly hesitate. It’s not that I don’t have any places I’d like to visit, but they’re simply not high on my priority list.

旅行は新しい場所に行って知らない風景を見て、その土地のおいしいものを食べることができる楽しいイベントだ。旅行はもちろん好きだけれど、最近、実はあまり好きじゃないのかもしれないと思うようになってきた。というのは、旅行に行った人の話を聞いて、面白いなと思う反面、自分も行きたいとはあまり思わないと気づいたからだ。まず、パッキングしたり、事前の下調べや予約が面倒だ。次に、急な天気や予定の変更に不安がある。私は急な問題が起こったときの対応が得意ではないので、臨機応変に動かなかければならないのは
プレッシャーなのだ。最後に、私は仕事を含めた今の自分の日常が気に入っているというのがある。仕事を休んでまで旅行に行きたいかと言われると、困ってしまうのだ。行きたい場所がないわけではないけれど、それほど優先順位が高くないというのが本音だ。
