"C'était génial et vraiment drôle." would be OK if you were talking about the evening, the overall atmosphere. But since you add "idiot" at the end, I guess you are talking about the movie itself, therefore it is "Il" (un film), and therefore "idiot" and not "idiote".

"le popcorn" : "le" means "the", "this one", "the one that I show" etc... here "du" is better : "some popcorn" or simply "popcorn"

You could use le for instance if you'd buy the whole : "Nous avons acheté tout le popcorn de la machine."
