Kids and Smartphones

Thanks to technological advancements, the world has become more connected than ever. In many ways, it’s amazing. But at the same time, we can’t ignore the downside—especially when it comes to children.

I've seen it way too often. Not just a few kids, but many of them, standing in elevators (and let’s be honest, adults too), mindlessly scrolling through short videos. No expression. No awareness. Just the thumb, swiping.

About a week ago, I saw a toddler—maybe three or four years old. Still too young to even read. Yet there they were, watching one short video after another. Their little finger was likely trained, instinctively swiping to queue up the next one. And I couldn’t help but wonder: how many times have they repeated that motion?

Instead of learning how to speak properly, or picking up basic manners, today’s kids are learning how to… scroll.
