Book: How to Identify Yellow Songs
Today I finished reading a 60-page book called "How to Identify Yellow Songs".
The yellow of "yellow songs" originates from "Yellow Journalism", which refers to content that promotes pornography, obscenity, and decadence. I always thought the allusion to "yellow (黄色)" came from China because of the Chinese terms "pornography (色情)" and "lech (好色)". This book was written in the last century and is mainly a critique of the popular music of Hong Kong and Taiwan in the last century. The main criticism of these music through frivolous, oily singing and melodies to make people depressed. The book also argues that these songs are too commercial and not artistic. But I'm disappointed that many songs of the last century was much better than today. In other words, the popular music of today is even less artistic. Now I am studying communication, and this book helped me understand Adorno's critique of jazz.
