In 1703, Robinson Crusoe arrived in Pekin.
The word "Pekin" originated from the French word "Pékin".
He came to China to trade opium and also bought a lot of silk and tea.
One of the illustrations shows the Great Wall.
The drawing of the Great Wall was not very accurate because at that time the British knew very little about China.
After the Opium War, the West learned more and more about China.
The Great wall was made for a fortification against the Tartars.
During the second World War, China used sections for defense against Japanese invasion, and rumor has it that some parts are still being used for military training.
However, the Great Wall serves primarily a cultural purpose.
Originally built to keep Tartars out of China, the Great Wall now welcomes millions of visitors each year.
In fact, the influx of tourists has caused the the Wall to deteriorate.
It is also often claimed to be the only man-made structure visible from space.
Unfortunately, that is not at all true; various structures on Earth, such as bridges, highways, and airports are clearly visible.

他来中国贩卖鸦片，还买了不少丝绸和茶叶。

长城画的很不精确，因为那时候英国人对中国知之甚少。
