我从2012到现在学习语言。我学习了世界语，最近学习中文。因为我的妹妹住在中国，所以我想说中文。她说得很好，我只知道一点儿。因为每天我早上七点上班，晚上八点下班，所以我学习的太慢了。
I've been studying languages from 2012 to now. I studied Esperanto, and most recently I'm studying Chinese. I want to speak Chinese because my sister lives in China. She speaks very well, I only know a little. Because I work from 7am to 8pm every day, I study too slowly.
我从2012到现在学习语言年开始学外语。
我学习了之前在学世界语，最近在学习中文。
因为我的妹妹住在中国，所以我想说中文。
I think "说中文" is perfectly fine. I personally don't agree with the statement "中文 is closer to written language".
她说得很好，但我只知道会一点儿。
因为每天我早上七点上班，晚上八点下班，所以我学习的太慢了得很慢。

That's great, thanks for your help! Haha, I hear a lot of conflicting opinions about 中文 vs 汉语 vs (one other that I can't remember now)! Most recently, a Taiwanese friend told me it was more than just linguistics, there was politics in it as well, and I thought...oh blimey, this is HAIRY, I'm just going to...er...learn them ALL and use whichever I remember easiest!

If you refer to oral language, 汉语 is a more precise expression than 中文. 中文 is closer to written language.
因为每天我早上七点上班，晚上八点下班，所以我学习的得太慢了。

Ahh, I am kicking myself about that 的 in the last sentence - I totally know that one, but somehow missed it in my umpteen proofreads before I posted! Lesson learned to proofread AGAIN (and check specifically for that mistake)! Thanks for the useful grammar pointers!
