Book - A Shot in the Dark - 53
Part num. 53.
This summary was deliberately written in the present tense (analyse it as if itโs unfolding as you read it).
Constable Twitten decides he will address the Aldersgate Stick-up case properly once back in Brighton. That is, assuming he will make it alive out of Bloomsbury. Thereโs no telling if someone is lurking outside* for him. Twitten sets about scouring the flat. He puts anything that might contain leads into the two holdalls** he has brought along. As he does so, he glances out of the window, down onto* the street. Twitten notices two men highly suspicious taking turns to glance up at* the flat. As Twitten takes their dodgy demeanours in, his mind races with thoughts. They could be criminals. Someone may have set him up. Or perhaps the place is surveilled anyway. Even so, Twitten shakes off any hesitation and fear. Being the quick-witted, meticulous person he is, Twitten is prepared for such contingency. He takes off his police uniform, puts on civilian clothing and makes his way out of the flat. As Twitten steps out of the door, the caretakerโwho has remained there all along since he let Twitten inโcries out, โWho the hell are you?โ Startled, Twitten jerks around and stares sheepishly at the caretaker. His fright turns to delight, as Twitten takes in the knowledge that his diguise works.***
*Twitten is in a third-floor flat of a building. Iโm not sure if I used the prepositions correctly.
**Holdall is the British term for duffel bag.
***Would it be correct in this way: โ...as the knowledge that his diguise works sinks inโ? I feel that both the sentences are a bit stiff.

Many people prefer to watch foreign films rather than locally produced films. Why could this be?Should governments give more financial support to local film industries?
my work:
Overseas movies are more popular than the native. I think the reason is that the themes of local films are so limited that people cannot produce excellent movies.The authorities should invest more in both local film industries and publishing industries.
The limitation in themes and technology can really impact the development of local films. On one hand, a good scripts is the fundamental issue of a good movie, so the simplex publishing types of books can hardly produce a good movie. For example, there are many famous serious movies in America such as Harry Porter which are based on a science fition, both of the books and movies are well-known. On the other hand, the poor special technology also restrain a film become popular. Because young people favor the science movies much.
In my opinion, the government invest more fund to the local film industries would help a lot. Firstly, it could encourage more people to write different sorts of books if they have enough income to have a better life. Secondly, the IT workers would also have more opportunities to improve themselves with abundant money, because the special technique costs a lot of money. Finally, the financial support can help with reducing the ticket fee so that it would attract more people to go to the cenimas, especially during the holidays such as Spring Festival and National Day.
In conclusion, as the limitation of the local movies, many foreign movies are preferred. Governments should support much more in both publising and film industries.

In the developed world, average life expectancy is increasing. What problems will this cause for individuals and society? Suggest some measures that could be taken to reduce the impact of ageing populations.
my task:
General life expectancy is longer than before in the developed counties. As the birth rate discreasing, the countries will get into an ageing society which has no benefit with the countries. Encouraging more young couple to have more children and producing more itelligent robots would help to solve the ageing problem.
It is true that people can expect to live longer than ever before in developed counties. There will be various problems sucequent of the longer life expectancy, while there could be many methods to help with the influence of ageing populations.
Here are the disadvantages of the increasing expectancy for both citizens and the countries. For citizens, as people get older, it is possible that they will suffer more disease such as different types of cancer and heart attack. For example, my grandmother died because of stomach cance when she was 84 years old. I watched she undergong a mount of pain in her last 3 years but can do nothing, which made me feel useless. As for the society, the workforce of the whole society would be discrease as more experienced get retired, meanwhile the birth rate is dropping in particular. Young people would take more responsibility of their work and families, which may be more stressful for them.
In my opinion, there will be several ways to cope with the influence of ageing populations. Firstly, governments should subsidising more families to have more children. For instance, they can provide more nurseries and financial support to help reduce the stress of parents. Secondly, companies especially IT technology companies can try to produce more intelligent robots to take care of the elder people. It is fairly successful in Japan.
In conclusion, it could probably be many consequences as more people live a longer life in the developed countries, but there still will be a lot of methods to deal with the problems of gaeing populations.

In January 1970, Oleg finally returned to the Soviet Union from his two-year posting* in Copenhagen. The thought of coming back to the USSR had been nagging Oleg since the last few months. He found a Moscow that barely resembled the city he had left two years ago. A colourless, ghost-like atmosphere hung heavy in the air. This affected Oleg greatly. He grew profoundly uneasy, feeling stuck in this grim city. Though, he managed to keep it all from his demeanour.
In the spring of 1970 a thick, insightful file landed on the desk of MI6 officer Geoffrey Guscott. The file concerned the intelligence that Standa Kaplan, a Czech defector, had passed on to the Canadian Secret Service. Amidst the vast amount of information one name stoot out more than the others: Oleg Gordievsky. The Canadian report revealed some valuable insights on this outwardly Soviet diplomat. Described as a freethinker, Oleg seemed to harbour anti-communist leanings. Keen to broaden his knowledge, Guscott searched Olegโs name in various databases. He learnt that in 1966, an Oleg Gordievsky had been posted to Copenhagen as a Soviet consular officer. Along with the Canadian file was also the Danish one. The Danes had long suspected Oleg was a KGB officer under diplomatic cover. In their view, his demeanour was amiss. Realising the implications of such valuable information, Guscott flagged Oleg as a โperson of interestโ for MI6.

Hallo - Ich brauche deine Hilfe! Nรคchste Woche muss ich fรผr zehn Minuten รผber Sprachenlernen und die Gesellschaft reden. Ich habe schon ein bisschen รผber Sprachenlernen geschrieben und Korrekturen bekommen, aber ich habe noch gar nichts รผber die Gesellschaft geschrieben. Heute werde ich ein bisschen mehr รผber Sprachenlernen schreiben und auch ungefรคhr 500 Wรถrter รผber die Gesellschaft schreiben. (Ich habe fรผr eine lange Zeit gar nichts auf langcorrect geschrieben, weil ich kรผrzlich mehr auf Sprechen und Lesen fokussiert habe!) :) Entschuldigung, es wird ein langer Text! Ich habe eine Woche, er auswendig zu lernen!
Lernen:
In letzter Zeit habe ich angefangen, sowohl Griechisch als auch Deutsch zu lernen. Letztes Jahr habe ich das griechische Alphabet gelernt, aber damals fand ich es zu schwierig, zwei sprachen gleichzeitig zu lernen und ich habe gedacht, dass ich mehr auf Deutsch fokussieren sollte, sodass ich meine Deutschkenntnisse schneller verbessern konnte. Aber dieses Jahr habe ich wieder angefangen, Griechisch zu lernen. Ich habe ein Paar griechische Freunde, mit denen ich sprechen kann und es gibt viele griechische online Lernmaterialen, die ich nutzen kann um die Sprache zu lernen. Normalerweise nutze ich Duolingo gar nicht, aber meiner Meinung nach, ist es eine gute Methode zu lernen, wie man auf griechisch tippen kann, weil das Alphabet ist ganz anders. Ich nutze auch Lingq.com um einfache Geschichten auf griechisch zu lesen und neue Wรถrter zu lernen. Haben Sie schon einmal zwei Sprachen gleichzeitig gelernt?

Ich bin in einer groรen Familie aufgewachsen. Mein Vater arbeitete als Rechtsanwalt und meine Stiefmutter arbeitete als Lehrerin. Ich habe einen groรen Stiefbruder, eine groรe Schwester, einen jungen Bruder und eine junge Halbschwester. Als ich jung war, gab es zu hause viel Krach, aber jetzt sind wir alle gute Freunde und kรถnnen รผber alles sprechen. Ich hatte einige schlechte Einflรผsse, als ich aufwuchs, und fing an zu trinken, als ich 13 war. Das gesetzliche Mindesalter fรผr Alkoholkonsum liegt aber in Schottland bei 18 Jahren. Trotzdem ist es nicht ungewรถhnlich, sowohl Jugendliche als auch sogar Kinder, Alkohol zu trinken. Das Trinken von Minderjรคhrigen und auch Komasaufen sind groรe Probleme in Schottland und das fรผhrt zu vielen Problemen fรผr die Gesellschaft, einschlieรlich Gewalt, Kriminalitรคt und Suchtproblemen. Heutzutage, versuche ich mein Alkoholkonsum einzuschrรคnken, um diesen Problemen zu vermeiden. Ich trinke nur Bier und meide Wein, (wie sagt man alcoholic shots?) Cocktails und Spirituosen. Alkohol kann auch viele gesundheitliche Probleme verursachen, darunter Herzkrankheiten, Krebs und psychische Erkrangungen. Ich habe in vielen Nachtclubs und Bars gearbeitet und habe gesehen, welche Probleme Alkohol verursachen kann. Menschen werden aggressiver und es kann zu Kรคmpfen kommen. Yoga und Meditation ist meiner Meinung nach ein guter Ersatz fรผr Alkohol und sollte in Schulen gelehrt werden. Dies kรถnnte dazu beitragen, Krankenhausaufenthalte und Kriminalitรคtsraten zu minimieren. Aber ja, ich bin ein Hippie. Waren Sie schon mal in einer Yogastunde? Im April werde ich Berlin besuchen und ich mรถchte viele Yogastudios besuchen, um herauszufinden, wie die Yoga-Szene in Deutschland aussieht. Damals war Soziale Medien nicht so weit verbreitet und meiner Meinung nach war das Leben viel einfacher. Soziale Medien kรถnnen Depressionen verursachen und ich versuche, es so wenig wie mรถglich zu verwenden. Aber Soziale Medien hat auch Vorteile. Zum Beispiel, man kann mit Freunde und Familie kommunizieren, die weit weg wohnen. Man kann auch Veranstaltungen organisieren und kรผndige wichtige Lebensereignisse an. Leider kann Soziale Medien wie Whatsapp benutzt werden, um Leute cyberzumobben. Es kann ein groรes Problem fรผr Schรผler werden und kann auch problematisch werden, wenn es nicht gemeldet wird. Zum Glรผck kann man bรถse Leute auf Whatsapp blockieren, aber es kann noch ein Problem sein, wenn man zum Beispiel in eine groรe Whatsappgruppe involviert ist und regelmรครig skurille Bilder bekommt. Ich hatte Glรผck, die Probleme zu vermeiden, die Soziale Medien verursachen kรถnnen, als ich aufwuchs.
Ich hatte vor kurzem ein sehr futuristisches Problem, dass vor 15 Jahren nie passiert wรคre. Ich habe fรผr ein Paar Tage mit einer Frau in der Dating-App namens Tinder gesprochen, aber sie entpuppte sich als Betrรผgerin und eigentlich wollte mir gefรคlschte Kryptowรคhrung verkaufen. Was fรผr eine Enttรคuschung! Ich habe Online gelesen, dass viele Leute durch Tinder-Betrug viel Geld verloren habe. Ich hatte aber Glรผck, misstrauisch zu sein und habe sie blockiert. Trotzdem fand ich es ein sehr modernes Problem.
Dating-Apps haben auch die Gesellschaft komplett geรคndert und werden nicht mehr herabgesehen, aber man muss Vorsicht haben, um nicht betrogen zu werden.
