We actually have the exact same expression in Japanese: "Hon-no-mushi."
Regarding the walking part, we actually spent the day scoping out some stores together.
We found a brand she likes, but she suggested we don't rush into buying them right there.
She said, "We can buy them anytime, so let's think about it carefully."
Just to clarify, walking and reading are separate hobbies for her.
She doesn't read while walking (no audiobooks either).
She just enjoys each activity at different times.

My suggestion would be to add something to make the connection (for example, if she listens to audiobooks when she walks), or to omit walking from the post.

1. Yes, I agree. I should change the title to something like "Mother's Day Surprise" to make it sound more thoughtful, as you suggested.
2. I just forgot to mention it.
Regarding the walking part, we actually spent the day scoping out some stores together.
