In Japan, there are four types of paper money. They are 1000, 2000, 5000, and 10000 yen. However, 2000 yen is rarely used because the trading volume is so small that you can't use it for vending machines or ATMs. On the contrary, someone was suspected that he tried to use counterfeit money when he used 2000 yen at checkout. I think it's more convenient to make 4000 and 7000 yen instead of 2000 and 5000.

I wouldn't use "on the contrary" here because it's not exactly contradictory to the last statement. I think it's actually backing it up more than contradicting it.
I think it's would be more convenient to make 4000 and 7000 yen instead of 2000 and 5000.
